My name is Matthew Dowgwillo and I believe in a Common Sense Community. It is my objective to serve my Minneapolis Uptown Community with a youthful, professional, and open-minded energy on the Minneapolis city council. I will get things done by working alongside fellow council members to improve economic opportunities, public safety, education system, and our environment while preserving the “culture” of Uptown.
Over the last 6 years I’ve worked hard to improve Minneapolis. As an entrepreneur, I’ve been a champion of tourism, art, music, and dining. I would like to give back to the Minneapolis, the city I love, by my work as a public servant and representing Ward 10 with a practical and a sustainable approach to building our community.
It makes me smile when I see the hybrid busses, hear the kids playing in the elementary school playground across the street from my house, and when I meet people at free concerts in the park. I take advantage of dining at great restaurants, listening to live music, and seeing new art. I take the bike lanes to work. I read in the park. I run around the lakes and joined a sailing club on Lake Harriet. I live in a community I love.
I believe government exists to ensure that the marketplace operates efficiently and effectively for the betterment of society as a whole.
I believe democracy is giving all stake holders and people a voice, and on the council, I will make sure that Ward 10 residents have equal voice and have their opinions heard and their values represented. Together, we can determine a set of goals and create programs to accomplish them.
I believe city policies can be implemented and prioritized by consulting experts on each issue. Sound scientific facts should be the basis for decision. Projects should be based on success and adherence to the agreed upon goals.
My work with over 60 local small business owners, city permit departments, and local non-profits have broadened my understanding for the various issues that arise in any project. I am confident that I can bring collaboration between interest groups, the city, and non-profits to create jobs and make our community better (see more information).
I am running for City Council because I have the skills, contacts, ability, and drive necessary to create a better, safer, more sustainable community. I will make smart investments that encourage the “culture” of Uptown and make Minneapolis a better place to live. I have the personal experience to understand issues and interest groups, and the personality to stand-up for what is right.
Currently, I am intricately involved and heavily invested in our local culture, arts, music, and tourism. I help small local businesses succeed by executing creative, cost-effective business solutions. PLEASE SEE MY RESUME FOR MORE INFO
